The Greek justice Ministry has signed a decree on the extradition to France of Alexander Vinnik, who was detained in Greece two years ago on charges of laundering between $4 billion and $9 billion through the BTC-e exchange.
Vinnik’s lawyers have already appealed this decision – the head of the group of lawyers, Timofey Musatov, reported on the difficulties that arose in connection with this decision. The fact is that the French warrant has already expired, as the Greek side has repeatedly assured.
In addition, an appeal can only be filed within a day, and the defense has not even received the relevant documentation. Vinnik’s lawyers believe that they are hindered in every possible way in carrying out the appeal procedure. In connection with the decision of the Greek authorities, Alexander Vinnik declared another hunger strike.
It is reported that later Vinnik’s lawyers still managed to file a cassation appeal and a petition to the Supreme administrative court of Greece to delay the extradition of the suspect to France. We will remind that in the beginning of this month, Greece overturned the decision to extradite Alexander winnick in the US or France.
The Russian Embassy in Greece expressed regret that the Greek courts ignored the request of the Russian Prosecutor General’s office to extradite Vinnik to his country of citizenship. Russia has previously made this request to the Office of the UN high Commissioner for human rights.
