The security service of the airport of the Italian city of Lamezia Terme found several farms for mining cryptocurrencies in the airport premises, as well as a virus-miner in computer systems.
According to local publication Rai News, a 41-year-old employee of the Italian airport used his official position to infect the system of the Sacal Global Solutions company serving the airport with a miner virus. He used the computing power of computers to mine cryptocurrencies. In addition, he placed several of his own mining farms, and powered them from the airport’s power grid. This process was captured by CCTV cameras.
The investigation was supervised by the Procurator Lamezia-Terme. The investigators, in collaboration with airport representatives, analyzed parts of the IT system within the organization. They found mining farms in two premises, connected to the Internet via the airport network and powered by the building’s electrical grid. It turned out that the discovered IP addresses that were accessed by mining farms were configured for the Ethermine pool used for mining Ethereum.
Recall that recently in the Smolensk region, three ex-policemen were convicted. They illegally seized mining equipment worth 40 million rubles.
