Apple has released updates for iOS 14.4 and iPadOS 14.4 to fix vulnerabilities that are critical for mobile cryptocurrency wallets.
Vulnerabilities allow attackers to execute arbitrary code in the system, and, according to Apple itself, are actively used by hackers. But vulnerabilities are especially dangerous for users of cryptocurrency wallets, as assets can be at risk.
At the same time, Apple does not disclose the details of the vulnerabilities, so even wallet developers do not know how dangerous the situation is. However, Tal Beery, a cybersecurity specialist at ZenGo, stressed that if an app relies solely on the iOS security system, then assets may be at risk.
“If you use a mobile cryptocurrency wallet on iOS devices, make sure to install updates! The update closes a vulnerability that allows you to execute arbitrary code, ” he wrote
Coinbase Wallet Development Manager Pete Kim.
The updates address two vulnerabilities in Apple’s WebKit, an open-source browser engine used by many iOS apps. It also closes a vulnerability in the system core that allows malicious applications to increase their privileges.
In April 2020, it was reported that hackers discovered a vulnerability in the mail application for iPhone and iPad, which allows you to steal data from the device, including access to cryptocurrency wallets.
